History of
Fort Gibraltar

Fort Gibraltar was a fur-trade era fort built in 1809 by the North-West Company near the confluence of the Red and Assiniboine rivers.

In 1978, the fort was rebuilt on the banks of the Red River in Saint-Boniface by Festival du Voyageur, a community-led non-profit organization who’s mandate is to promote joie de vivre and extend the reach of French language and culture throughout the year through artistic, educational, historical and cultural experiences inspired by the voyageur era.

Today, Fort Gibraltar serves as an interpretive centre in the summer and as a year-round destination for weddings and private events.
